Competition Details

The deadline for this competition has now passed. Short-listed students and schools have been notified. The Awards Ceremony takes place on Wednesday 5th December.

FOLLOWING the huge success of the Safer Hastings Partnership’s (SHP) 2006 Schools Competition, the crime reduction organisation is now inviting pupils from all schools and colleges in Hastings & St Leonards to enter the SHP Schools Competition 2007.

This year’s competition again asks local students to come up with storyboard ideas for film clips about Fire & Road Safety, Railway Safety and Anti-Social Behaviour.

The winning primary school, secondary school and 6th form/college storyboards, plus the best idea in each category, will be made into film clips to be played on the Partnership’s 11-screen community TV network, SHP-TV, for three months.

These will feature the name of the winning pupil and their school or college’s logo.

The winning primary school, secondary school and 6th form/ college students will each be given a Nintendo Wii games console for themselves and a digital camcorder for each of their schools or colleges. In addition, the pupils behind the best idea in each category will each win an MP4 Player.

Eighteen runners-up (six primary, six secondary and six 6th form/college students) will each receive a pair of Odeon Hastings cinema tickets.

The competition is open to any student attending primary school, secondary school, 6th form or college in Hastings & St Leonards, or anyone aged 5-18 who lives in Hastings & St Leonards but attends Bexhill College or is home-schooled.

There is no limit to the number of entries per school or college, but all storyboards must be submitted on plain white A4 paper with the pupil’s name, age, academic year and school written clearly on the back by 12pm on Friday 19th October 2007.

This year’s competition sponsors are Odeon Hastings, Network Rail, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and Sussex Police Authority.

After the success of last year’s competition, this year we have Senior Home Office Official John Scott on the judging panel, along with the High Sheriff of East Sussex and members of the SHP, Sussex Police, Hastings Borough Council, the Odeon Hastings, Sussex Police Authority, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, the local Primary Care Trust and CCN Ltd, the company behind SHP-TV.

The judges will narrow entries down to the best 45, and then the 15 short-listed secondary school pupils, 15 short-listed primary school students and 15 short-listed 6th form/college students will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at The Hastings Centre at 6.30pm on Wednesday 5th December.

Storyboards of all shortlisted students may be used in SHP publicity materials, and may include the name of the artist and his/her school or college.

Entries should be submitted prior to the deadline to: the SHP Schools Competition 2007, Safer Hastings Partnership, C/o Hastings Police Station, Bohemia Road, Hastings, TN34 1JJ.
